Two people, a registrar, and eleven kilometres of snow between the car and the vows.
An elopement is a logistics problem wearing a dress. We left at four, walked in head torches for two hours, and reached the saddle with twenty minutes of usable light to spare.

Before anyone else was awake
The cold does something to the colour that no filter reproduces: everything goes blue until the sun clears the ridge, and then for about four minutes it is gold.



Nobody clapped. The silence was better.





We were back at the refuge by one, eating soup, boots steaming by the fire. There is no reception in this gallery because there wasn’t one.
